One of two spalted maple bowls which I finished today. This was my first bowl finished with the new Glenn Lucas woodturning tools. They worked very well. Cleaning the bottom with the negative rake scraper worked really well.

My first attempt at a natural edge, end grain bowl/plate. It was quite a challenge because when turning the outer edge you are consulate changing between cutting air and wood. I need more practice to get good at that. I am, however, quite happy with the results for now. It is 35cm wide.

I turned the first bowl from the yew wood I got yesterday. It is an end grain bowl which shows the growth rings well. The wood is still wet so it might crack a bit. I hope not, as I gave it away
today.

Picked up some wood today from a neighbour. Same woman who gave (for little $$) a walnut tree. Beautiful yew wood. Looking forward to turning a few nice bowls and maybe some boxes out of it. Any other ideas?

At the beginning of the year I was asked by a long time friend, who was relocating and renovating his families restaurant, La Pergola, in Balingen, if I would turn him wooden bread bowls from oak. The result was 9 or 10 bowls. This was the first (and until now last) time that I had to turn so many things and have them be relatively close in size and quality. It was a great experience. Turning the same thing over and over really builds up skill and muscle memory.

Der Woodsmith now has a logo. It was design by Petra Penz, a good friend of ours. I like it a lot but still would like to hear your honest opinions.

I finished the cherry wood vase today. I could be much happier. Hollowing it out was a ton of work. the lever that the cutting edge of the open Ring has at 35cm over the tool rest is tough to handle but it went pretty quickly. The outside is not as smooth as I would have liked. I need to practice much more on long wood.

I got this old piece of Cherry wood from a neighbour down the street. He said it had been sitting around for 20 years. Looking forward to finishing it up this weekend.
Ich habe diese Stück Kirschholz von einen Nachbar bekommen. Er sagte das Holz liegt bei ihn rum seit 20 Jahren. Freue mich es am Wochenende fertig zu machen.

Today my daughter and I visited Paul over at Baum Satori. We
got a warm welcome, cup of coffee and this nice piece of an old oak beam. Thanks again!! I am hoping to turn a bowls and boxes out of it. I am looking forward to see how they turn out.
This is the first time I have turned an old beam like this.

I am currently trying to finish some bowls which were roughed out before my class with Franz Keilhofer. At that time I was still roughing the bowls to thin which leave little space for adjustments later. I rushed it a bit but in total it is ok.
